Joining Cosmo is easy!
The Cosmopolitan Music Society is the only place in Western Canada where members have a choice of nine ensembles, including multiple levels of concert and jazz bands, as well as the ability to join Chorus or Handbells. Everyone is able to practice in a single building rather than spread out across facilities not intended for performance and rehearsal such as schools or churches, while performing multiple concerts each year including at the Winspear Centre. No other organization in Canada offers the same level of community music programming.
By joining Cosmo you get access to:
Regardless of your skill level or previous experience performing in an ensemble, we encourage you to register to perform with us. Enrollment in our programs occurs primarily during the summer, and our chorus accepts new members during the first three weeks in September and first two weeks in January.
Registration in all our programs requires an informal audition so our music director can assess your skill level and place you in the ensemble that best matches your ability and interests. Audition standards for each ensemble are accessible via the Audition Standards link below. Most auditions take place in the last week of August in person at the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre.
We recognize that the process of auditioning can be nerve-wracking for amateur and recreational musicians. Do not let it deter you from inquiring with us – we welcome all skill levels, and our mission is to provide a safe, welcoming atmosphere for musicians to continue to develop their skills!
The Cosmopolitan Music Society is a membership based Non-Profit organization. Season Fees are based on the number of Ensembles joined and included 4x Tickets to the Finale Concert at a promotional rate of $20 and membership to the Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre Society (OSPACS) at a rate of $5.
All CMS members performing in an ensemble are required to pay the following fees for the 2023/24 Season:
